(Background supplement: 6 key points of the public hearing of Taiwan's Crypto Law "Virtual Asset Service Law": If the unlicensed business is involved in fraud, it will be dealt with more heavily!) Inside the Skyrise building in Cebu, Philippines, a fraud center disguised as a legitimate company has run more than $800,000 in cryptocurrency scams over the past year. However, a YouTuber "Mrwn" who specializes in exposing scams, after a year of meticulous investigation, exposed the gang's evil behavior and prompted the Philippine government to intervene in the investigation. YouTuber Mrwn undercover to expose the scam The reason why this scam case came to light was that Mrwn's friends received suspicious calls in mid-2024 to promote Quantum AI investment solutions. Mrwn immediately launched an investigation and used social engineering techniques to successfully infiltrate the internal system of the fraud center, gaining access to the on-site surveillance screen and computer. Even though the scam syndicate moved offices several times, Mrwn continued to stay on top of its movements and targeted two core figures: "Marcus" (real name Antonio, acting as site supervisor) and "Adam" (suspected pseudonym, using Israeli phone numbers). After a year-long collection of evidence, Mrwn collected a large number of audio recordings, internal information and financial statements, which confirmed that the group had annual revenue of about $820,000 and a net profit of about $365,000 after rent and salary. The survey also shows that scam groups frequently use exchanges such as Binance, Netcoin, Coins.ph and other exchanges to flow funds. Scam syndicates collapse after head-to-head In early 2025, the scam syndicate moved to the Cebu Gallery building. Mrwn once again broke through its network protections, obtained surveillance footage of the new office, and impersonated "Adam" to upload surveillance screenshots on the community, causing panic among fraudulent members. Later, Mrwn even confronted the scammers directly through the laptop microphone of office supervisor Antonio. Since MRWN directly made the camera footage public, members of the group could be seen fleeing the office scene one after another, until the server and monitoring system were offline the next day, indicating that the operation had been interrupted. The scam center's operation method exposed Mrwn's video, which received more than 3.4 million views in one month. According to him, the scam group used BMJ Data Processing Services, Virtual Wealth Exchange and other names to scam victims, taking advantage of the Philippines' low labor costs and English language capabilities to target victims in South Africa, Nigeria and Gulf countries. Group members professionally market fake crypto investment products such as Quantum AI and Bitcoin Code, claiming to earn high weekly returns of 30% to 40% to entice investors to send money. Mrwn also uncovered the scammer's 14-page script: start with a cordial greeting and gradually lead the victim to invest money. Emotional manipulation is used, such as questioning whether the other person "wants to be poor forever" and impersonating the local company to build trust.... In addition to promoting fake platforms, fraud syndicates also steal credit card information and ask victims to send money through Bitcoin ATMs. Philippine Government Response Later, Mrwn submitted the investigation data to various government units in the Philippines, and only the Department of Justice replied to recommend a local report, but the case was not completed because Mrwn was not in the Philippines. However, after the video attracted attention on the Internet, Renato Paraiso, assistant secretary of the Philippine Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, publicly responded at an online press conference, promising to launch a formal investigation, saying: "Mrwn's investigation has provided important clues, there are currently a number of targets involved, and we will continue to pursue and strive to find out the facts of the crime and arrest the relevant people."
