Base has announced new progress in its 2024 roadmap, aimed at dropping on-chain transaction costs, increasing data availability, and supporting global user participation in the on-chain economy. The project team plans to introduce the PeerDAS protocol through the upcoming Pectra upgrade to increase data capacity and drop network bandwidth requirements. Since its launch last year, Base has increased throughput by 4 times and raised the gas target per block from 2.5 Mgas/s to 10 Mgas/s. Base has committed to increasing the gas target by 1 Mgas/s per week from late September, aiming to achieve a long-term goal of 1 Ggas/s. This strategy aims to provide a predictable scaling path for developers and the community while ensuring the healthy development of the network. Base also emphasizes the importance of increasing blob capacity to support its expansion plans and proposes raising the minimum price of blob data to ensure the network's health and fair compensation.
