Aave(AAVE) vs Lido(LDO): Comparison of Performance in Key Areas of Decentralized Finance
Aave(AAVE) and Lido(LDO) have always been key frontier projects in the Decentralized Finance space, but it seems one has surpassed the other on all metrics. Both have experienced significant price changes in the past 24 hours, and on-chain activity is worth following.
"Next Stop 1 Trillion Dollars" - Aave Founder Aave's cumulative lending volume has officially surpassed 775 billion USD, marking one of the largest usage milestones in DeFi history. The latest chart shown in the figure indicates that the lending curve of the protocol has been steadily rising since the beginning of 2021. In fact, founder Stani Kulechov believes that the protocol is about to break the $1 trillion mark. This vision may not be out of reach — the adoption of the protocol indicates that decentralized finance has shifted from being experimental to a necessity. With this momentum, Aave may soon become the first DeFi protocol to reach the trillion-dollar lending threshold.
AAVE outperforms LDO Data from Token Terminal confirms this significant shift in the Decentralized Finance sector. Aave has surpassed Lido Finance in total locked value (TVL). Lido once held 37% of the DeFi TVL, while Aave accounts for 24%. However, as of July 2025, AAVE accounted for 39% of DeFi TVL, while Lido fell to 21%. The AAVE platform alone accounts for 22% of the total TVL in Decentralized Finance, with a nearly 50% share in the lending sector, approximately 46%. This upward trend clearly indicates that Lido's influence has weakened, while Aave's steady growth since March has positioned it as a new practical pillar of Decentralized Finance.
In addition to its leading position in the lending and staking fields, can its price continue to surpass LDO?
Comparison of AAVE and LDO Charts As of the time of writing, the price structure comparison of the 4-hour charts for both shows that AAVE is in a continuous upward trend.
This shows a bullish structure with higher highs and clear trendline support, indicating strength in the price. At the same time, LDO was previously above its trend line but has fallen below it, struggling to rebound. AAVE's MACD is in a bullish state, while LDO's is flat, indicating indecision. Of course, price is not just about structure; it is also about sentiment. In the past 12 months, AAVE has increased by 253%, while LDO has decreased by 55%. If the trendline support is held, the former may expand its advantage; but if it breaks down, it may start to correct. For LDO, sentiment may change as it regains the trendline. Therefore, as of the time of writing, AAVE is in a leading position, but if LDO rebuilds its structure or macro conditions change, its advantage may quickly diminish.
Gate.io market shows that AAVE is currently at $300.30, with a 24-hour increase of 3.21%; LDO is currently at $0.7917, with a 24-hour increase of 10.88%.
